Hyde Park Calling

Well yesterday I went to Hyde Park to see the Aerosmith. Needless to say, I was blown away! I still can't believe that a bunch of sixty year olds were able to give such an amazing performance. And yes, Steven Tyler's mouth can still hold three microphones! Also, I was pleasantly surprised by Chris Cornell, the former lead singer of Audioslave and Soundgarden, who was singing right before Aerosmith.
Within the week, I will be posting Devil's Got A New Disguise, the latest album by Aerosmith (no no no, don't get excited, it's just a collection of their greatest hits so far). Also, I will be publishing Chris Cornell's second solo album titled Carry On.
Finally, sing a - long to this week's tune, You Know My Name by Chris Cornell. For those of you that don't know it already, this song was featured in the latest James Bond movie, Casino Royale.

Shit! I started playing WoW again... this can't be good. It's quite addictive and can take up a lot of my time. Promise I will be back with some cool updates! Raining Pleasure - Flood

One of my favorite bands, Raining Pleasure have always made me wonder about the duality of their name: is it raining pleasure or is it the pleasure of raining? Having shared festival stages with The Cure, The Pixies, The Dandy Warhols and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, I think this is a band you need to know. Flood: (Coming of A) Great Quantity of Water is their second and best album so far. A bit old (2001) but still worth listening to. If you don't believe me have a go at the music video of Fake, the album's biggest hit.

Diesel ad campaign

Diesel using global warming as the main theme for their Spring/Summer 2007 campaign. Trust me, they don't give a shit about global warming, they just wanna sell more clothes. This is simply a way to promote the corporate responsibility image of the company so that consumers will eventually have positive associations with the brand. Diesel is simply following the fad of "Go green!" or "Green is the new black", which I find extremely pathetic! Eventually it all comes down to money.
Advertising really stops nowhere, I should now... I work for it.

Last Friday night and while I was almost passed out on the floor from all the drinking, I heard this tune that I had totally forgotten about. It seriously made me feel better and I was back on my feet dancing again. So here it is in every possible way that you can imagine: you can download the mp3, watch the music video or simply listen to the song using the flash player to your right... just making sure you get the same feeling I got 3 nights ago!

H&M ad

When I first heard that Madonna would be advertising H&M, I was like whf? Then I saw the ad and I was like wtf even more! For a celebrity endorsement to work there has to be a fit between the celebrity and the brand. It doesn't matter how good the media planning and buying is or how great the creative execution is (personally I believe in this case it sucks big time). Even if you have an enormous PR push to back it all up, still NOBODY is gonna believe that Madonna buys her clothes from H&M or that she even designed anything for them to sell. She is just doing this for the money which I think is a shame... I mean for fuck's sake, doesn't she already have enough? Awaiting your comments.

Catatonia - Road Rage

Here is a band that never made it... Catatonia (not to be mistaken with Katatonia), were a popular Welsh band that managed to get quite a lot of attention in the mid-late 90s. After their rise to fame, it became clear that the lead singer, Cerys Matthews, was not coping well with the increased pressure, suffering from anxiety and nervous exhaustion (they were named Catatonia after all...) which resulted in the cancellation of several concert tours and a deterioration in the relationships between the band members. On September 21, 2001 the band officially split.
Too bad, I fUcKiNg loved this song... (mind you that Welsh accent, you don't get that often).

Jumped!

Well I did it! Yesterday, around 15:30 I did a tandem skydive. Strapped to my instructor, I jumped from a height of 12,000 feet and did a free fall for about 45 sec, approaching a speed of 120 mph. It's really difficult to explain what you feel once you are out of that plane. You get so many intense emotions in such a short time that it's impossible to tell them apart. Yeah, of course I was shitting myself but once you get past the initial shock that you are actually falling, you spread arms and legs and it really feels like flying! Plus, once the parachute opens, you get to enjoy a wonderful view.
I would like to thank everyone that sponsored me to do this and helped me raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. I would also like to thank my instructor, Dean Hoskins, and of course Coops for organising this (I think I can still hear you screaming your ass off all the way down...). About two months ago I posted this ad by smashLAB, a Canadian creative agency. A few weeks after that, I was contacted by Eric Karjaluoto, smashLAB's creative director, as he wanted to share with me his studio's most important project to date: Design Can Change. This is how he put it:

"Design Can Change is our effort to bring designers together to address climate change and advocate sustainability. After ten months of research and hard work, we have launched the website. It works on the premise that designers are a critical hub for business, industry and the public; therefore, we have the ability and responsibility to lobby, inform, and subsequently enable positive change, by working together. Key to this effort is the pledge: a set of guidelines for becoming more sustainable. It gives designers an actionable framework for embracing sustainability and also helps quantify our collective strength as we lobby for change."

Published after Patti Smith's highly publicised induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, "Twelve" is a selection of cover versions and radical re-workings of original songs by the likes of Nirvana, Jim Morrison, Tears For Fears and Stevie Wonder. Oh please, do check out this week's tune! The featured song, called "Anna", is simply fab! Composed by Gunnar Madsen, an award-winning, Grammy-nominated composer and filmaker, this song was heard on Sex and the City (...yeah, I know) and in the Marisa Tomei film "Just a Kiss". I will be trying to get my hands on the full album as according to Paul Kienetz of Amazon.com: "This is, to put it simply, one of the most beautiful records I have ever listened to."
